About Me

I always have trouble online filling out profiles. I have so many interests and find myself involved in so many projects that most outside observers conclude that I have a severe case of untreated ADHD. It’s hard for me to sometimes filter that and provide only the relevant details. But you’re here and you’re actually reading this part, so I should provide some basic background about who I am and what you might find on my blog.
I am a single 37 year old gay geek. I grew up around technology as my father was an engineer in the semiconductor industry. I attended University of New Mexico for four years working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography. Once the realities of supporting myself with a Fine Arts degree sunk in, I returned to one of my loves from my youth–computers. I’ve been involved in the IT industry for about 13 years now.
While I’ve held a variety of positions in my IT career, I’ve been happiest working for myself. I’ve been involved in 3 startup companies now, the most recent being an IT consultancy called Purple Squirrel Group. I’ve done software development, networking, project management and more.
I mentioned that I’m a geek, right? Well with that comes all the “usual” geeky interests–science fiction, role playing games, to a lesser extent video games, and unix.
My goal is to focus this blog on the aspects of technology and the IT industry that I find fascinating — open source software, Linux, Solaris, cool gadgets, self-employment, etc. But I’m known for being opininated so I’m sure some politics, snippets of my life, etc will make it through.
